The Beaches of Koh Lanta
The beaches of Koh-Lanta are located on the left side of the island, below the village of Sala Dan (the pier). When I say beaches I mean large strips with sand, restaurants and tourists. The right side of the island has of course the sea but these are zones with mangroves and fishing. You can always find a place to swim also on the right side. At the bottom right side, there is a very nice private beach, worth visiting. Pirate Bay.
I will state the beaches on the left side from bottom to top, because the beaches on the bottom are more special. The upper left side has much more hotels. The beaches on the bottom are smaller and with a bay form. The beaches on the upper part are long.

Mu Ko – Lanta National Park

You need to pay in order to enter here. There is a nice beach in which it is possible to swim.
Bamboo Beach

Located very close to Lanta National Park. You just need to park the motorbike and the beach is behind some trees.
A very quiet beach without any facilities.
There is a viewpoint over this beach (from several cafés).
Khlong Chak Beach – Monkeys

This is a popular and beautiful beach, but without any facilities.
You park the motorbike and get down to the beach (just 2 minutes walk)
There are often monkeys on the trees, beside the trail to the beach. They usually let you pass.
When you return to your motorbike, you may discover a monkey on it. Be aware and don’t leave items that can be easily reached.
Kantiang Bay – Bakantiang Beach

This is a very elegant beach. A good place to stay (see option 4 on the Page : Where to Stay in Koh Lanta.)
There is a Massage hut that looks like an oasis in the desert
The road above the beach is nice. It has some restaurants.
And there is a viewpoint over the beach, from the road.
Nui Beach – Diamond Cliff Beach Restaurant

It is possible to access this beach via the Restaurant Diamond Cliff. There is a nice view from this café-restaurant and they have cakes and coffee.
Klong Nin – Restaurants Area

This is an area with an intersection of roads. The strip of sand is not large but there are several good restaurants here with access to the beach.

Klong Khong Beach

This is one of the beaches on the upper part of Koh Lanta, in the zone of Long Beach. This is the area where most tourists stay. (see option 2 on the Page : Where to Stay in Koh Lanta.)

Long Beach and the adjacent beaches are characterized by being long. If you are looking for a beach like a bay, you need to go to the south.
There are a lot of hotels at Long Beach. (see option 2 on the Page : Where to Stay in Koh Lanta.)
Khlong Dao Beach

This is the first big beach south of the pier of Sala Dan.
In front of Khlong Dao Beach and Long Beach, there is the main road with plenty of restaurants.
Laem Kho Kwang Beach (Sala-Dan Pier)

This is the beach that belongs to Sala Dan town (the pier). The beach here is nice for walks at sunset when there are tides.

Beaches on the Right side of Koh Lanta
Beaches on the Bottom Right side

There is the sea on the bottom right side. It is very beautiful but most people will not call it a beach. There is no white sand and no tourists swimming. There is fishing activity.
There are several cafés on the road with view over the sea.
Pirate Bay

This is the southernmost point on the right left side. It is a private beach with free access.
You can order a drink and sit here
You can also swim, but there is no white sand like on the left side of the island.
Koh Lanta Noi

This is the upper part of Koh Lanta, above the river and above the town of Sala-Dan. The area is big and barely touristic.
Like the right part of Koh Lanta Yai, also Koh Lanta Noi has no beaches with white sand. You can still enjoy the beautiful landscape (the best is with a motorbike).
