For Don Muang Airport, see this page.
Suvarnabhumi is the main airport of Bangkok. You will probably land here from abroad. There is also a smaller airport which is called Don Muang Airport and is mainly a domestic and regional airport.
Suvarnabhumi is located about 30 Km to the east of Center Bangkok.
The options to arrive from the airport Suvarnabhumi to the center of Bangkok :
- The best way to arrive from the airport Suvarnabhumi to the town center is with the Airport Train, called Airport Rail Link (read info). Buses are not really an option (from when the train exists). There are buses going from a bus terminal which is close to the airport and that can be reached with a free bus shuttle but the destinations are mainly for the suburbs of Bangkok, so the train is the public transport to use to reach Bangkok Center. The train station at the airport is located at the lowest floor.
- Taxis are another option to reach Bangkok center. There is one central point to get on a Taxi at the airport. The price is about 300 baht, when there is no heavy traffic. It takes less than 1 hour drive to reach Bangkok center with a Taxi, when there is no traffic jam. Read more about Taxis in Bangkok and about Taxi scams (don’t panic, everything is fine).
- There may be buses (or minibuses) from the airport to regional locations. There is a bus to Pattaya city.
- There is a bus that goes directly to the Khaosan road (backpackers area), the bus S1.
- There is a free shuttle bus to the other airport of Bangkok, Don Muang Airport.
In addition to the information on this page, you can use the smartphone applications Google Maps and Moovit, in order to know the right way of transport to your destination. I am explaining about this in the page about the Buses of Bangkok.
In the following map you can see the Airport Train stations in town center :
