What to Visit and Do on Koh Samet ?

1. The Beaches of Koh Samet

This is the main attraction of Koh Samet.
See about The Beaches of Koh Samet on the next page.

2. Viewpoints

There are 3 main viewpoints on the island. Koh Samet is mostly flat so the views are less spectacular than on other islands.

Viewpoint 1

The most notorious viewpoint is located on the bottom of the island. It is called Laem Toei. See location on Google Maps or on the Maps above.

You need to travel 7 Km from “the center” (Sai Kaew Beach).
The best is to rent a motorbike and ride till here. You can also use a shared Taxis.

From the parking place, there are 2 short trails. One trail leads to a Sunset viewpoint and the other to a Sunrise viewpoint.

Both locations are very close to each other. There is a small island in front. The waters are very nice and according to the signs, there is an important natural ecosystem here.

There are toilets and there is a kiosk selling water and ice-creams.

Viewpoint 2

This viewpoint is located on the main road, at about half distance to Laem Toei, mentioned before.

It is called Sunset view point, on Google Maps. See location on Google Maps or on the Maps above. There is a view from here over the mainland. Some big buildings can be seen.

Viewpoint 3

This viewpoint is located on the way to Prao Beach. See location on Google Maps.

There is a hut where you can sit. The view is in direction of the mainland. The view is more or less similar to viewpoint number 2.

Remark : In addition to the viewpoints that I have mentioned, there are a lot of nice views, over bays from the beaches of Koh Samet.

3. A Boat Trip

It is quite popular to make an organized boat excursion while in Koh Samet. One of the reasons that it is popular is that there is not too much to explore while driving on the island (it is a small island).

There are boat trips of 3 hours and there are boat trips of 5 hours. There are boat trips that start in the morning and others in the afternoon. The long trip include a lunch, the short ones, no, but they give you fruits and water anyway.

A speed boat is used.

There are around 10 people on a boat.

There are pauses for making snorkeling

And a pause on a tiny island. You are never the only boat that arrives on the tiny island…

The guide is also making photos of you, under and above the water and then you can download it from their website. Cool.

Overall, I enjoyed the trip but the boat excursions in Koh Tao and Koh Phi Phi are more impressive.

The boats start from the main pier. The organizers pick you from your hotel or from the travel agency from which you bought the ticket.

Prices vary between 600 to 1000 Baht. You will see a lot of publicity in town. In addition to the price of the excursion you will need to pay a tax for a natural reserve, as I explained on the first page. You pay this Tax in one of the stops, on a tiny island.

4. Massage

Like in all Thailand, also on this tiny island, there are a lot of places offering a Massage. On the beaches or on the main street in the “center”.

5. Make a Tattoo

I saw only 1 place for Tattoos, in the “center”.
