What to Visit in Koh Phangan ?

There are a lot of nice beaches in Koh Phangan. There are some viewpoints on hills and there are some waterfalls.
The best is to rent a motorbike and to visit the beaches along the road.

The Full Moon Party in Haad Rin Beach

Let’s start with this special event.
It happens each month, when the moon is in full shape. Tourists are arriving from the neighboring islands in order to participate in this feast. The hotels tend to get fully booked around this date, see page 2 – where to stay.

You need to buy a bracelet in order to enter the beach area on that day. The price is 200 Baht (at the time that I am writing).

It is very happy and nice on that night.

Many visitors are decorating themselves with temporary paintings and Tattoos

Fire plays on the beach

A lot of neon lights on the beach

Balloons with laughing gas

A lot of alcohol, especially in form of buckets

A lot of fast food

How to Arrive ?

Beaches on the Upper-Left side

Let’s start from the main town Thongsala and take the road towards up, close to the sea. A travel clockwise on the island.

You can continue with the road till the top corner of the island (about 14 Km). Then around Haad Khom Beach, there is a mountain and no more road. In order to arrive to the next beach on the right (Bottle Beach), it is necessary to make a detour via another road, so you will probably make it on another day.

Wok Tum Canal View Point

This is a nice place  between Thongsala town and Hin Kong beach (2 Km north of Thongsala).

You see the place, when you travel on the beach road. Just park your motorbike and visit the small pier.

Calm and photogenic.

How to Arrive ?

Hin Kong Beach

At sunset, there is a strip of sand, inside the sea, that can be reached by foot. Very photogenic.

It can seem impressive from some angles

The beach itself is also beautiful

It is a long beach with several bars, right beside the water. It is advised to arrive here especially at sunset.

How to Arrive ?

Srithanu Beach + Zen Beach

On the road, in front of these beaches, there is a sort of “center”.  A few cafés and restaurants. A very popular place to drink a coffee.

The beach is OK.

How to Arrive ?

Haad Son + Secret Beach

Secret beach is really cool. Park your motorbike on the road and get down to the beach.

There is a café-restaurant.

How to Arrive ?

Haad Yao Beach

Haad Yao is relatively a big beach.

There are more hotels here compared to the adjacent beaches (see Page 2 :  Where to stay in Koh-Phangan.)

There are also some diving schools here

Haad Yao may be considered the center of the beaches on the north-west side.

How to Arrive ?

Salad Beach

Very cool here and there is a good restaurant. SaladHut.

How to Arrive ?

Koh Ma Beach

We are here on the top part of the island.
There is a tiny island in front of that beach. At certain times of the day, the level of the sea is low and it is possible to walk to this island.

When I visited, the sea was high and I just enjoyed the beach.

How to Arrive ?

Wang Sai – Waterfall

An easy access waterfall.
There are waterfalls that you need to make a small trek and climb in order to reach them and there are waterfalls that are located close to the ticket booth and are easy to reach.

So this waterfall belongs to the second category.

You walk a little bit from the entrance

And you arrive to the waterfall

You can walk a short distance inside the river, if you want.

How to Arrive ?

Chaloklum Beach

From the road, there is a viewpoint over this beach. No need to walk, just stop with your motorbike.

You can also visit the beach

There is a deck

How to Arrive ?

Haad Khom Beach

On the road, just before arriving to the beach, there is a nice bridge. over a river

I know, you are curious to know what is on the net. Here it is :

You then park the motorbike on the road and get down to the beach

If you are lucky, you will see monkeys on this beach. It is the only place in Koh Phangan where I saw monkeys

The beach here is wonderful. Very picturesque.

And there are some bungalows here, for those who want to stay in this remote corner of the island (and share the beach with monkeys).

There is a café

The monkeys, are sometimes approaching the road

How to Arrive ?

Haad Khom Viewpoint

Located very close to Haad Khom beach. It is a very easy climb of 10 minutes.

There is a nice view
