What to Visit and Do in Hua Hin ?
15. Caves with Bats (3 caves)
Another recommended visit. The 3 caves are close to each other, so you can visit the 3 on the same morning. The 3 caves have bats living inside, very cool.
The 3 caves are related to a Buddhist place, so you will see also some shrines.
There are not a lot of tourists visiting, I was the only one inside the caves (cool). The first and second cave have many tunnels inside, the third cave is only a big hall. If you are short in time, then choose cave number 2, a lot of bats inside.
Cave number 1 : Tham Dao
The cave is managed by a Buddhist temple. So the first thing you will see is a big Buddha.
Before you climb to the cave, you need to switch on the lights. The electric switch is inside this box. It is a good idea to tell one of the monks that you are going inside the cave (so that they will not switch off the lights).
You have to climb a few steps in order to arrive to the cave
There is a view from the top
At the entrance of the cave you will see Buddhist statues.
And an explanation about the cave
When you will continue a little bit further, you will see the famous bats on the ceiling
There are stalactites in the cave
There are many tunnels in the cave, it is better to stay where it is illuminated
Cave number 2 : Tham Laplae Monastery – Lub Lae cave
In order to arrive to this cave, you pass via an ananas field
Yes, ananas.
At the entrance, there is a Buddhist hall. A monk will turn on the lights and give you also an electric torch. He will also ask you to consider donating some money on your way back (there is a donating box).
You climb with your torch some steps
Again, you will see some Buddhist statues
And a lot of bats. Really a lot of them.
It is very humid inside. You will get out sweating.
Cave number 3 : Kailone Cave
Also in this case, it is a religious Buddhist place
With Buddhist statues
There are quite a lot of stairs to climb in order to arrive to the cave. It is located on a hill
The cave is just one hall. Unlike the 2 previous caves, this one is open to the sky.
There are nice Buddhist statues
It is a short visit
How to arrive ?
- Located 28 Km from Hua Hin center.
- See location on Google Map : Tham Dao cave, Tham Laplae Monastery (Lub Lae cave), Kailone Cave
, or on Map 3, above. - See the possible ways of Transport, around Hua Hin, on the first page.
16. Khao Hin Lek Pai – View over the city + Monkeys
It is a hill, close to the city center.
Once you are on the hill, you will see signs to different viewpoints
This is the view from viewpoint number 6.
The most interesting viewpoint is the one towards the south, viewpoint number 2
It is interesting because there are many monkeys waiting for food. There are hundreds of monkeys. Some people may feel uncomfortable, others will enjoy. From my experience, the monkeys are quite friendly.
Except the monkeys, there is a view over the southern part of the city.
How to arrive ?
- Located 4 Km from Hua Hin center.

17. Mrigadayavan Palace +Mangrove Forest Park
There are 2 attractions here. The first one is the Mrigadayavan Palace which is one of the previous residence of the royal family and the other is a Mangrove walk.
The Mrigadayavan Palace is closed for visitors at the time of writing. It was closed during the Corona era and didn’t reopen since. Check if it has reopened, when you visit the place.
The other attraction (in the same compound) is a Mangrove forest walk and it is wonderful. There is another Mangrove walk in Hua Hin, which was mentioned before, but why not visit two of them ? They are both great.
The walk is on a wooden bridge in a Mangrove environment.
There are many crabs of course and there is also an amphibian fish, dubbed “Mud skipper”. Amphibian means that the fish can walk outside the water.
Here, I took this fish in picture (make a zoom) :
There is a tower, on the way
With view over the area
It is very hot here and the area is big. You will probably don’t visit all of it.
The Mangrove walk, as well as the palace are located inside a military compound. Here is a facility for parachute training.
The Mangrove walk is located near a wonderful beach.

18. Swiss Sheep Farm
A very cool place. A sort of park with farm animals. The entry is 150 Baht (at the time of writing).
You can buy carrots for 20 Baht and give to the small animals.
Visitors prefer to feed the rabbits. Rabbits are very cute.
I gave carrots to the rabbits and to the giant turtles
There are camels
There are Bambies (well, deers)
Giraffes
And also other stuff
Of course that there are also sheep in the sheep farm.

Note that there are 2 more places with the same concept, located very nearby. One is called Camel Republic and the other Malai Farm Cha-am.
19. Elephant Village
There are about 3000 elephants in Thailand and there are many elephant camps.
You can see elephant even in the islands of Thailand (in Koh Chang for example).
So there is also an elephant camp in Hua Hin, not far from the town center.
It is possible to ride here on an elephant
At the time of writing, the ride costs 1200 Baht.
Some people consider riding elephants immoral. The problem is not by the ride itself, but by the condition of training and imprisonment of the elephants.
How to arrive ?
- Located 5 Km from Hua Hin center.
- See location on Google Map or on Map 3, above.

20. Wat Khao Noi – Temple with views
This shrine is located very close to the elephant camp and also near the town center, so it is convenient for visiting.
There is a huge Buddha statue with an umbrella and a walking stick
It is located on a hill, so there is a nice view over the city.
A relaxing place. Usually without tourists.
How to arrive ?

- See location on Google Map or on Map 3, above.

21. Floating Market – Sam Phan Nam
It was once a popular recreation place. Now it is quite neglected. I visited the place on a week-end and there were almost no tourists.
There are a few shops around a lake.
A few stands for amusement
A train for kids
Unfortunately, there are rabbits kept in a tiny cage and tourists are supposed to buy them carrots.
How to arrive ?
- Located 10 Km from Hua Hin center.
- See location on Google Map or on Map 3, above.
