What is it ?

La Rambla avenue
What is it ?
The most famous avenue of Barcelona. More than 1 km long. From plaza de Cataluña to the sea.

La Boquería market
What is it ?
The famous food market of Barcelona. Entrance from La Rambla avenue.

Plaza Real
What is it ?
A very nice square with cafés, restaurants and a fountain.

Colón statue
What is it ?
A high statue of Colombus. It is possible to get up with an elevator, but you don’t really need to do this, there are better views from Montjuic hill.

Metro station: Drassanes. The statue is at the end of la Rambla, near the port.

Port zone
Port Vell
What is it ?
The touristic port at the end of la Rambla with yachts. Very nice views.

Maremagnum mall
What is it ?
A pleasant, medium size touristic mall at Port Vell.

Commercial Port
What is it ?
Where the very big boats (passengers and cargo) are stopping. the easiest and most amusing way to visit it, is with the Golondrinas touristic boats from Port Vell. (40 minutes trip).

La Barceloneta zone
Barceloneta residential area
What is it ?
The residential neighborhood of the Barceloneta beach. Narrow streets, nice squares, cafés, restaurants, special atmosphere.

Metro station: Barceloneta.

Barceloneta Beach
What is it ?
The closest beach to Barcelona center, the most animated beach. The cable car to Montjuic hill is here.

Hotel W
What is it ?
A big Hotel in form of a sail. I mention it because it is the only thing you see, if you look to the right. There is a bar upstairs to visit at sunset. The promenade along the beach is nice.

Puerto Olimpico
What is it ?
A marina. At night there are dancing clubs and a casino. It is nice to walk from the Barceloneta beach to Puerto Olimpico.

Metro station: “Ciutadella Villa Olimpica”.

The Gótico
Plaza Sant Jaume – the municipality square
What is it ?
A nice and central square of the Gotico. The Barcelona municipality building and the Catalunya administration building.
How to Get there ?
Metro station: Liceu or Jaume I

The Flamboyant-style bridge in the Gotico quarter
What is it ?
A small, very nice decorated bridge between two buildings. All tourists are taking pictures of it.

What is it ?

What is it ?
A beautiful Arc de Triomf

What is it ?
A place with classical concerts. The building is very nice, a Unesco world heritage

What is it ?
A beautiful garden with student atmosphere. Schools and libraries around.

La Sagrada Familia zone
La Sagrada Familia
What is it ?
The most famous tourist attraction of Barcelona. An impressive church designed by the famous architect Gaudi. The construction began in 1882 and it still continues.
How to Get there ?
Metro station: Sagrada Familia.

Sant Pao
What is it ?
A former hospital, now a museum. Very nice facade of building, a Unesco world heritage.
How to Get there ?
Metro station: “Sant Pao Dos de Maig” or “Guinardo Hospital de Sant Pao” or just walk from the Sagrada Familia.

Park Guell Zone
Park Guell – Gaudi Gardens
What is it ?
A park designed by Gaudi with great architecture. One of Barcelona’s main tourist attraction, A Unesco world heritage site.
How to Get there ?
Metro station: Lesseps or Vallcarca or Alfons X. Need to walk 30 minutes from the metro stations.

Paseo de Gracia zone
La Rambla de Cataluña and Paseo de Gracia avenues
What is it ?
Commercial streets. La Rambla de Cataluña is a walking street (like the famous Rambla), it starts from Plaza de Cataluña and goes up. Paseo de Gracia is parallel and also starts from plaza de Cataluña. Both avenues have many shops.
How to Get there ?
Metro stations: Cataluña, Paseo de Gracia, Diagonal.

La Pedrera – Casa Mila
What is it ?
A building designed by Gaudi and a museum about Gaudi. A UNESCO world heritage.
How to Get there ?

Casa Batló
What is it ?
Same as la Pedrera: A building designed by Gaudi. A UNESCO world heritage. Nice facade. Can be visited inside.

Plaza de España zone
Plaza de España
What is it ?
A major and nice square. Access to Montjuic hill, the magic fountains, pueblo español. Las Arenas mall, Airport Bus.

Arenas mall – Plaza de Toros
What is it ?
Before, it was a stadium for bull fighting shows. Now, a nice medium size mall with a Terrace at the top for great views.

Magic fountains
What is it ?
Show of fountains with lights and music, begins at sunset, every half hour.

Pueblo Español
What is it ?
An open sky museum. Streets that represent the architecture of different places in Spain, a sort of village. Need to buy a ticket to access.

Montjuic hill
Montjuic hill
What is it ?
A hill at the south of the city, close to the center. Nice views over Barcelona. The hill starts at plaza de España (inland) and ends at the sea. (See plan below)
How to Get there ?
- Funicular (see explanation below).
- Teleférico del Puerto (see below).
- Touristic bus
- Taxi
- Regular Bus from plaza de España. Bus number 150.
- By foot from Plaza de España or from the commercial port area.

Funicular to Montjuic hill
What is it ?
A funicular that goes from the metro station Parallel and arrives to Montjuic. It travels underground.
The ride is included in the regular ticket metro, it’s like changing a metro line, no need to buy a new ticket.

Teleférico de Montjuïc
What is it ?
A cable car for travelling inside the Montjuic hill. It starts at the point where the Funicular ends and arrives to the castle. No long queues.
How to Get there ?
One possibility is by taking the Funicular.

Teleférico del Puerto – for Montjuic hill
What is it ?
A cable car that starts at la Barceloneta beach and gets to Montjuic. Nice view. Long queues.
How to Get there ?
Metro station: Barceloneta, then needs to walk 10 minutes to the beach.

Castle of Montjuic hill
What is it ?
An old military castle dating from the middle ages era. Nice views over the port.
How to Get there ?
With the Teleférico de Montjuïc or by walking in the roads on the hill.

Olympic facilities of Montjuic hill
What is it ?
A stadium that was renovated to host the 1992 Summer Olympics games. This is not really a tourist attraction, but a nice point if you choose to walk in the mountain.
How to Get there?
It is in the middle way between Plaza de España and the Castle (long walk).

Gracia zone
Gracia neighborhood
What is it ?
A residential area above the Diagonal avenue. A Student atmosphere. Nice squares. Small nice restaurants. Cinema Verdi at the main street Verdi with movies in original soundtrack language.
How to Get there ?
Metro station: Fontana

Tibidabo zone
Tibidabo
What is it ?
A mountain peak overlooking Barcelona, about 4 Km from the city center. A children park attraction. A church. Nice view over Barcelona.
How to Get there ?
Option 1 :
Metro + Blue Tram + Funicular : Get down at the metro station “Av Tibidabo” then take an ancient “blue tram” (Tramvia Blau) that dates from 1901, then a funicular to the top of mountain.
Option 2 :
Metro + Bus + Funicular : same as option 1 but instead of the “blue tram” you take a bus (same stop), because the Blue Tram doesn’t operate every day.
Option 3 :
Direct Bus from Plaza de Cataluña : Inform yourself at the Tourist Information booth in plaza de Cataluña because this bus doesn’t operate all the time.
Option 4 :
Touristic Bus : The touristic bus has a stop at the Metro station “Av Tibidabo”, then you have to continue as in option 1 or 2.
Option 5 : This is the cheapest way (it costs just a normal metro ticket). You arrive (by Metro) to the metro station “Peu del Funicular”. You climb with the funicular (included in the same metro ticket). You arrive to a sort of village in the mountains. You take a shuttle bus (included in the same metro ticket) till Tibidabo, or if you prefer, you can walk, the area is nice and there is a huge telecommunication tower on the way (Torre de Collserola).

Taxi

Camp Nou zone
Camp Nou Stadium – The Barça museum
What is it ?
The famous football stadium of Barcelona and a museum about the Barça team. Big Barça shop.
How to Get there ?
Metro stations: Les Corts or Maria Cristina or Palau Reial or Badal. Need to walk 20 minutes from the metro stations. The Touristic Bus has a stop.

The museum is situated in the heart of Barcelona, in the Gotic, the place where Barcelona began and in the underground there are ruins from 2000 years ago. A world class Art museum. (Art is about paintings, statues and this kind of stuff). If you don’t want to look at old paintings you can buy a partial ticket and get access to the roof of this nice building (the mirrador) and have one of the best views over Barcelona, you can then tell your friends that you have visited Barcelona Art museum, nobody will really think to ask you if you’ve been on the terrace or inside the halls. Sitges
What is it ?
A small coast town, 35 Km south of Barcelona. Known for its annual film festival and as a popular destination for gays and lesbians.
How to Get there ?

Montserrat Mountain
What is it ?
A mountain with several peaks of about 1200 meters, situated about 50 Km from Barcelona. Nice views. Hiking and climbing trails. monastery Santa Maria.

Lloret de Mar – Costa Brava
What is it ?
A very touristic seaside town at the Costa Brava. Very nice bay and beaches and views. A place to party at night.

What is it ?
A very nice medieval city, 100 Km from Barcelona. Colored houses beside a river, a big cathedral, an old fortification, old Jewish quarter.

What is it ?
A town 150 Km from Barcelona, almost on the French border. The Dali museum is the main tourist attraction.

About 2 hours with the suburban train. It is after Girona.

The Baleares Islands
What is it ?
Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca. Very Touristic Islands about 250 Km from Barcelona
How to Get there ?
A night boat from Barcelona port (about 8 hours) or a speed boat (4 hours). Also, flights from the airport, about half hour.
Andorra
What is it ?
A small independent state between France and Spain on the Pyrenees mountains. Ski stations around.
How to Get there ?
With a special Bus, about 3 hours.

Special things not to miss in Barcelona
The Touristic Bus
What is it ?
A double deck bus that has a sightseeing trajectory in Barcelona. It’s possible to get on and off the bus at the many stops. There are 2 companies : Barcelona Bus touristic and Barcelona City Tour.
Take this bus if you are short of time in Barcelona. Otherwise, you can easily
arrive by yourself to the tourist attractions by walking or with the metro.
How to Get on the bus ?
Buy a ticket at the hotel, tourist information offices or at the bus itself. The ticket is per days, not journey.
Tapas Bars
What is it ?
The special way Bar-Restaurants all over Spain, expose and serve the food.

What is it ?
One of the Best beers in the World (I’m serious). A Catalan brewery.
La Merce feast (September)
What is it ?
The biggest feast in Barcelona. A feast in honour of Barcelona city. four days starting the 24 of September. Music shows, popular dances, Giant dolls, human castles, overbooked hotels.
Note 1:
Barcelona is a city with very beautiful streets. You can enjoy life by just walking in the central zones of Barcelona and eat an ice-cream. You don’t necessarily need to wait in queues in order to enter inside every monument someone has built. I personally know people who just saw the Sagrada familia from the outside and then went to the beach.
Note 2:
Most tourist attractions are in the central zones of Barcelona and you can arrive to them by walking.
