Main shopping Zone
The main shopping area of Barcelona is around Cataluña square :
Portal de l’Angel
From Plaza de Cataluña, cross the street (south, towards the sea) and you are in Portal de l’Angel pedestrian street (parallel to la Rambla).
This is the main shopping area of Barcelona. From this street ,there are smaller streets going in all directions, full of shops. Among the shops are international fashions brands like Zara, Pull & Bear, Springfield, Cortefiel etc.

La Rambla
La Rambla itself has mainly souvenirs shops, but there are some fashion brands at the top of the avenue, close to plaza de Cataluña.

Plaza de Cataluña itself
The huge department store “El Corte Ingles” is in the square. There are two “Corte Ingles” in the area. One is located in the square itself and the other in Portal de l’Angel, the pedestrian street (this store is dedicated to sport).
At the main Corte Ingles you can do these (except shopping) :
- Take great photos of Cataluña square from the top floor (9 floor)
- Go to the toilet at the 9 floor
- Buy a local SIM for your smartphone, at the seventh floor
(electronic department) - Get a free map of Barcelona at the Information, on the
ground floor - Buy food at the Supermarket at the basement floor.
Also in the square : Big Apple store and a Fnac.
Fnac is a cool store with music, books, cameras and computer related stuff.
It has French origins and the chain is all over Europe.

Raval – The top part
The top part of the Raval (near plaza de Cataluña) has small shops with more specialized items like hard rock clothes and guitares (in Taller street, for example).

Paseo de Gracia and Rambla de Cataluña
Above plaza de Cataluña there are two parallel streets going up till the Diagonal avenue, these streets are full of shops :
- Paseo de Gracia – a busy large avenue.
- Rambla de Cataluña – a pedestrian avenue (don’t get confused, this is not the main, famous Rambla of Barcelona, which is bellow Cataluña square)
In these avenues you will find also many exclusive shops.

Commercial Centers (Malls) in Barcelona
Maremagnum
A nice, medium size, mall in Port Vell.
This is a touristic area so you will arrive here anyway. Not many big shops, but there are some international brands like H&M, Desigual and more. No supermarket.

Las Arenas
A beautiful, medium size mall. This place was once a Toro stadium. You should visit this place anyway, as a tourist attraction. There is a Fnac at this mall and small shops. Small supermarket. You can get on the roof and see the area above plaza de España and Montjuic hill.

Diagonal Mar
A big regular mall with 3 floors. Huge supermarket Alcampo, Fnac, Mediamarkt. This is a zone with offices so people are coming for lunch at around 14:00.
Relatively close to Barcelona center (with the metro) and a good place for shopping quietly.

La Maquinista
Huge, nice and pleasant commercial center, partly open to the sky. Here you will find all the big fashion chains and you will have plenty of space to move. There is a Fnac, Apple store, big supermarket and more.
How to get there :
It’s not in the center but also not far with the metro, but you’ll have to walk 15 minutes from the metro exit to arrive to this mall.

L’Illa Diagonal
Medium size mall, in a zone with offices. Fnac, Decathlon (big sport department store), small supermarket, big food court at the underground level.

Glories
Quite big, partly open sky. It was renovated recently and it has even a Fnac store now. It has a big supermarket Carrefour. Offices area. The Agbar tower in form of a huge missile is outside (145 meters).

Gran Via 2
It feels like the suburbs here, the place is in the direction to the airport.
The mall is nice and it has a Carrefour supermarket and a Decathlon sport store.

Metro station : Europa Fira , just 3
stations from Plaza de España (Metro line L8).

Note : Las Arenas mall is located in Plaza de España and it is a good choice for the hotel location if you want a cheaper option compared to the very center of Barcelona. See details in the page : Where do Stay in Barcelona.
When are the shops closed in Barcelona ?
The only day that big shops may be closed is on Sunday.
You can still find food on Sunday in the small grocery stores, all over the city.
The Maremagnum mall is open on Sunday.
In periods of high season of tourism, the big shops (like El Corte Inglés) may be open also on Sundays.
The usual opening hours of big shops is from 10:00 to 22:00.
